of Meiji Pharmaceutical University (MPU)

Hirotoshi Echizen, MD, PhD.
President

Meiji Pharmaceutical University (MPU) is proud to be one of Japan’s pharmacy schools with a history spanning more than 100 years. MPU was founded by Prof. Shigenobu Onda in 1902, and we will celebrate our 124th anniversary in 2026. Currently, approximately 2,400 undergraduate students and 140 graduate students enjoy their campus life at the Kiyose Campus.

Since the reform of pharmaceutical education in Japan in 2006, a six year curriculum has been implemented nationwide. In response to this transition, our Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences was reorganized into two departments: the Department of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (a six year program for training pharmacists) and the Department of Life and Pharmaceutical Sciences (a four year program for educating researchers and engineers in a wide range of life sciences). We are also proud of our excellent graduate school, which has awarded master’s degrees to approximately 1,800 students and doctoral degrees to 373 students since its establishment in 1975.

Our faculty is a community of dedicated scholars whose outstanding teaching prepares students for diverse career paths and lifelong learning. Our educational achievements are reflected in the high pass rates on the Japanese National Licensure Examination for Pharmacists.

We have long enjoyed active international collaborations with highly regarded universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Thailand. We conduct mutual exchange programs for undergraduate students with Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University in Thailand. For more than 30 years, we have regularly invited distinguished scholars from the University of Alberta (Canada) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA).

Our campus is located in the suburbs of Tokyo and is blessed with rich natural surroundings and abundant greenery. I cordially invite you to explore our university’s website to learn more about our history, beautiful environment, and facilities. On behalf of our faculty members and students, I look forward to welcoming you to our campus.
