Welcome to the homepage
of Meiji Pharmaceutical University (MPU)!
Our pharmacy school is among those with the longest history in Japan. Professor Shigenobu Onda founded MPU in 1902, and we will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2022. At present, MPU is home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate students and 200 graduate school students. As of 2020, our alumni have exceeded 37,000 members.
Since the reform of the pharmacy education curriculum in Japan was implemented in 2006, MPU has been operated by two distinct faculties. In the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, we educate students aiming to be clinical pharmacists, while those aspiring to be scientists/engineers are educated in Life and Pharmaceutical Sciences. We are also proud of our excellent education program in our graduate school through which 1,856 students -- 1,575 with a master's degree and 281 with a doctor's degree--have successfully graduated.
Our faculty is a community of dedicated scholars whose excellent teaching skills prepare students for broad paths to variety of careers and life-long learning. Our educational achievements have been endorsed by a high acceptance rate in the Japanese National Licensure Examination of pharmacists.
We have enjoyed active, international educational collaborations with many foreign universities. We undertake a mutual, external placement program for undergraduate students at Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University in Thailand, University of Hertfordshire in the UK, and University of Alberta in Canada. We have invited visiting scholars from the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, every year for 25 years.
MPU is unique in its governance system. The chairperson and board of directors are elected from the alumni and alumnae. The current chairperson, Dr. Kenichi Sagawa, and I work together to uphold our glorious history and achievements in the years to come.
Our campus is rich with nature and an abundance of lush vegetation. I cordially invite you to explore our website to learn more about the history of MPU and its brilliant learning environments and facilities. If you are interested in MPU, please join us on our cozy campus for an enjoyable experience.
